City of Weissenfels, Markt 1, D-06667 Weissenfels, Germany

Dear visitor,

- Is your last name Weissenfels ?
- Do you live in the United States or another country outside Germany ?

If you answer these questions with "Yes", we are looking for you !!

The name of our small town in eastern Germany is Weissenfels, too ! We thought you might be interested in some of the history and present-day development of the town that shares your family name. Therefore, we have initiated a program to provide you with information about our town. We also want to assemble a collection of stories about emigrants who left Weissenfels in the 19th and 20th centuries. The most interesting ones will be shown here on these Webpages for you to enjoy.

We asked 11th grade students at the Weissenfels vocational school to compile a list of Weissenfels sights and historical events which would be of interest to foreigners, and perhaps persuade them to pay a visit to our town. The students went to libraries and museums in order to collect important information about our town, which dates back more than 800 years ! Don't you agree that Weissenfels is a town full of fascinating traditions, a town that made European and even world contributions in the fields of music, literature and pedagogy ?! The names of many famous musicians, poets, writers and pedagogues are closely related to Weissenfels.

Even if your name is not Weissenfels, but one of your forefathers came from here, we would be happy to hear from you.
